You can now type one sentence about your business and get a working website in under two minutes. In India, that starts at ₹249 a month.

A custom website from an agency costs ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 for a small business, and more for an online store. So why would anyone pay that?

Sometimes they shouldn't. An AI website builder is the right call for a lot of businesses in 2026. But not for all of them, and the ones that pick wrong usually find out a year later, when the site can't do the next thing they need.

Here is how to tell which side you are on.

What an AI website builder does in 2026

You describe your business. The AI picks a layout, writes the copy, finds images, and builds the pages. Then you chat with it to change things: "make the hero section shorter", "add a pricing page", "make it look more premium".

Every major builder now works this way. Wix launched Harmony in January 2026, an AI builder that mixes prompting with a normal visual editor, and it is included on every Wix plan. Hostinger's Horizons builds a full site from a single prompt.

What you get is a real website, hosted for you, with your domain, SSL and basic SEO settings. Not a mockup.

Prices are starting prices on annual billing as of 2026. Payment features usually need a higher plan.

Wix

The safest all-round pick. Huge template and app library, AI editing through Harmony, and online payments from the Core plan up. The downside is that it can feel crowded, and leaving Wix later is hard.

Hostinger Horizons

The budget pick for India. ₹249 a month gets you an AI-built site with a free domain for a year, SSL and ecommerce basics. The AI is less polished than Wix's, but for a simple business site it does the job.

Framer and Webflow

Built for design. Framer is great for portfolios, studios and startups that want a site that looks expensive. Webflow gives the most control of any builder and suits growing marketing teams, but it takes real learning.

Durable

The fastest. It builds a site in about 30 seconds and adds a basic CRM and invoicing. But you cannot export the code, and it is not built for online stores.

Are AI website builders bad for SEO and speed?

Not any more. This is the most outdated belief in web design.

Google measures site experience with Core Web Vitals. HTTP Archive data from late 2025 shows hosted builders now pass more often than WordPress sites, mostly because they handle hosting and image loading for you.

Share of sites passing Core Web Vitals, HTTP Archive, late 2025

Duda84.9%
Webflow (desktop)79.0%
Shopify75.2%
Wix74.9%
Squarespace70.4%
WordPress46.3%

A badly built custom site can be slower than a Wix site. Speed comes from how a site is built, not whether it is custom.

So if a developer tells you a builder will "kill your SEO", ask for numbers.

Where AI website builders hit the wall

The limits are real. They just show up later than most people expect.

Integrations with how you actually work

A builder connects to popular apps. It struggles with yours. Live stock from your ERP. Dealer-specific pricing. GST invoices generated from your billing system. A booking flow tied to your own staff schedule. These are where builders run out of road.

Custom logic

A quote calculator with your real pricing rules. A login area where dealers see their own orders. A form that routes leads to different branches by pin code. Builders can fake some of this with add-ons. Past a point, the add-ons cost more than building it properly.

Ownership

On most builders you rent your website. If prices rise or you want to move, you often cannot take your design or code with you, only your content. Some, like Durable, offer no code export at all.

Looking like everyone else

AI builders draw on the same templates and patterns. In crowded markets like real estate, interiors or coaching, many sites start to look alike. That matters when your website is your first impression.

Costs that grow with you

The ₹249 entry price is real. But store plans, app add-ons, extra staff seats and transaction fees add up. A growing online store can end up paying more each year on a builder than it would to run a custom site.

Costs are typical Indian ranges from Hostinger's 2026 website cost guide. Real quotes vary with scope.

When you need a custom website

If none of these apply, use a builder. If two or more apply, a custom site is usually worth it.

  • Your website needs to talk to your own systems. ERP, inventory, billing, CRM, or a custom database.
  • Customers or dealers need to log in and see their own orders, prices or documents.
  • Your pricing or booking rules are specific to your business and do not fit a standard form.
  • Brand matters more than speed. You need a design nobody else has.
  • You are paying for five or more add-ons to make a builder do what you want.
  • You need to own the code, for investors, compliance, or simply peace of mind.

Two quick examples

Picture an interior design studio in Bandra. It needs a beautiful portfolio, a contact form and a WhatsApp button. That is a builder site. Framer or Wix, set up in a weekend, and money saved for photography.

Now picture a pipe fittings distributor in Bhiwandi with 300 dealers. Dealers want to check live stock, see their own price list, and place repeat orders without calling. That is not a website. It is a dealer portal connected to the ERP, and no builder will do it well.

The second kind of project is what we build at Nipralo. Our team designs and develops custom websites, portals and web apps that connect to the systems you already run. You can see examples in our web and mobile app portfolio and case studies.

How to decide in five steps

  1. Write down what the site must do, not how it should look. List every action a visitor or customer needs to take.
  2. Mark anything that needs your own data or systems. Stock, prices, orders, logins.
  3. If nothing is marked, start with a builder. Use the AI to draft it, then edit the copy yourself so it sounds like you.
  4. If several items are marked, get a custom quote and compare it with the three-year cost of a builder plus add-ons.
  5. Plan the exit either way. Keep your domain in your own name and keep copies of your content and images.

The bottom line on AI website builders

For a simple business website in 2026, an AI website builder is fast, cheap and good enough for SEO. Wix, Hostinger Horizons, Framer and Webflow all do the job, depending on your budget and design needs.

A custom website earns its cost when your site has to work with your business systems, handle customer logins, or carry a brand that must stand apart. Pick based on what the site needs to do, not what it needs to look like.

Are AI website builders good for SEO?

Arrow Icon

Yes, for most business sites. HTTP Archive data from late 2025 shows Wix, Squarespace and Shopify sites pass Google's Core Web Vitals more often than WordPress sites. Good SEO still depends on your content, page structure and local listings, which you need to work on whatever platform you use.

Can I move my website off Wix or another builder later?

Arrow Icon

Usually only your content, not the design or code. Most builders do not let you export a working copy of your site, so moving means rebuilding it elsewhere. Keep your domain registered in your own name and keep copies of your text and images to make any future move easier.
